유승호 작가노트

무엇이 되고자 했을때 많은 것을 담으려고 했다. 고통과 번민이 찾아 왔다.

모든 것을 내려 놓았을 때 비로소 사진 속에서 쉼을 발견 했다.

사진은 삶을 대변한다. 사진을 통해 안식과 치유를 경험했다.

사진을 통해 치유되어가는 과정을 사진작품을 통해 표현 하고자 했다.

사진이 무엇인가? 라고 정의 하라 한다면 사진은 ‘빛으로 그리는 그림이다’ 라고 말하고 싶다.

오랜 시간 같은 장소를 방문하며 가장 좋은 빛을 담았다. 시간대를 달리해서 가기도 했고 시즌을 달리해서 가기도 했다.

가장 좋은 사진이 니왔을 때 비로소 그곳을 방문하는 것을 멈추고 다른 주제를 찾아 나섰다.

사진을 멜로디로 표현하고자 했다. 사진을 찍을 때 멜로디 안에서 선율이 흐르고 움직이듯 사진을 보면 사진이 멈춰 있지만 색상을 통해 노래한다.

사계절을 통해 삶을 표현 하고자 했다. 결국 사계절의 변화나 삶속에서 일어나는 인생의 변화는 같다고 본다.

ARTIST STATEMENT

When I endeavored to be somebody, I tried to fill myself with many things; instead suffering and anguish came over me.

As I let go of all my expectations, I have found sanctuary in photography.

Photography sheds light on our lives; in photography I have experienced rest and healing.

Eventually I have made effort to reveal the process of healing in photographic works.

What is photography, then?

It is the art of creating images by recording light.

In order to capture the just right light I have frequented the same location in different seasons and different times of day.

Only when the best possible photos have revealed themselves, I could move on to the other subjects and places.

For my aspiration is to present photos in melody by making every attempt to capture the dynamic images as if the stillness of image could sing along with the colors.

I yearn to illustrate our lives through the four seasons in Nature since change of seasons on Earth is analogous to the changing narratives of our lives – exquisitely picturesque.
